In this video interview, filmed after the conference, Dennis told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “Relationships along the supply chain still need work to improve transparency and the exchange of information between customers and suppliers.”
It was important for industry and the private sector to share knowledge and information with regulators and public sector bodies, so effort is not duplicated, he added.
‘The real areas of risk’
“That will allow each side to focus on the real areas of risk to optimise the use of scarce resources, both in the public and private sector,” said Dennis who is a former president of the Institute of Food Science & Technology and a former director general of Campden BRI.
Sharing information would also provide scope for cost savings and allow firms to benchmark their performance against their peers.
The food safety conference – Safe and legal food in a changing world – was sponsored by: ACO Building Drainage, Activate Lube, AON, Detectamet, FFP Packaging Solutions, the Food Advanced Training Partnership and the Institute of Food Research. It took place at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire on Thursday October 15.
