X-ray can spot specific invaders

Innovation in quality control and the ability to tailor equipment for a variety of food packing applications will be the key themes of Ishida Europe’s Foodex stand.

Ishida’s IX-GA-4075 high X-ray inspection system, for example, can detect foreign bodies such as steel, aluminium, tin, glass, stones, hard rubber, plastic, some bones and shell, down to 0.3mm in size. It features Ishida’s Genetic Algorithm (GA) technology, which enables operators to ‘train’ the X-ray system for more sensitivity to specific contaminants.

It can also spot missing, undersized and mis-shaped items or damaged products, and the software allows product masking and weight estimations.

The DACS-G checkweigher is capable of high speeds while maintaining high accuracy, and, at the touch of a button, can switch between two weighing ranges. This enables food manufacturers to handle more products on one machine. The model on show at Foodex will be demonstrated with a 'reject failsafe system' designed to help food manufacturers comply with the latest supermarket codes of practice.
