Barker will take over from current executive vice president Henrik Dalboege, who will be leaving the company on September 30.
Dalboege had been with the company since 2006 and joined the executive management in 2007.
Chr Hansen ceo Cees de Jong said Dalboege had made a considerable contribution to the business, including the development of a sound platform for probiotics for dietary supplements and infant health.
‘Solid background’
“Henrik has a solid background within human health and industrial biotechnology. Under his leadership the Health & Nutrition Division has developed from a business unit to an independent division with strong growth,” he added.
Barker is currently the corporate vice president for corporate strategic development at Chr Hansen, a role he has held since 2012.
De Jong said the business was now ready to expand.
“We will enforce our strategic focus and look at new opportunities for future growth. Christian has substantial experience with identifying and developing growth opportunities and I look forward to expanding our collaboration.”
