Slow-release nutritional formula for bone health

Nutrient firm LycoRed has launched a new formulation that combines slow-release technology with genistein, tomato lycopene and a dose of vitamin D3. LycoRed says all three nutrients are clinically proven to support bone health and the new composition provides a natural approach to alleviating menopause symptoms.

The genistein in Lyc-O-Fem is a phytoestrogen from the Japanese pagoda tree Sophora japonica and is standardised to 98% purity and formulated for slow release.

"The advantage in combining the slow-release formulation of pure genistein with natural tomato lycopene, in addition to the cumulative activity in bone maintenance, is the ability of lycopene derivatives to reduce the risk of certain adverse effects associated with estrogenic activity," explains Dr Tal Offer, product development manager for LycoRed.

Lyc-O-Fem contains lycopene a bright-red carotenoid pigment from an all-natural extract of tomatoes. Cross-breeding methods were used to develop a strain of non-genetically modified tomatoes rich in lycopene.
