Liquid coatings go for a spin with food products

Machines for applying liquid coatings to a variety of foodstuffs will be on display by Saturn Spraying Systems, which uses its patented spinning disc technology to apply coatings in sectors as diverse as bakery, biscuits and confectionery; meat and fish; and fruit and vegetables.

The types of coatings possible range from egg glazes or egg washes on pastry products; and barrier coatings and flavourings on biscuits and wafers; to oil on ethnic breads and bread-crumb coated, poultry and fish products. The technology is also used to apply marinades to poultry products and 'sterilants' on to fruit and vegetables, including berry fruits and salad leaves.

On show will be Saturn's Discmaster machine and a sprinkler unit, with an additional option to facilitate the application of granular coatings, such as seeds, nuts and sugars, in defined lanes, as well as full width coverage of products.
