Euro Foods Group plans new 'Asian Destination' site at Aston

Ethnic food specialist Euro Foods Group is preparing a planning application for a £10m 80,000sq ft+ ‘Asian destination’ complex in Aston, Birmingham, that will combine food manufacturing, storage, distribution and cash & carry services.

General manager Andrew Miller told FoodManufacture.co.uk that the land had been acquired but the process of securing the planning application and building the site would probably take two years.

The new site would ultimately create at least 100 jobs, he predicted. “A lot depends on the planning process as we find out exactly what we can and can’t do with the site.”

The firm, which has three food processing facilities in Bangladesh, operates three facilities in the UK: a depot and chicken processing facility in Newport, South Wales and two depots in Barking and Sunderland. UK turnover would top £80m this year, said Miller.

8-10% growth year-on-year

“We’ve been seeing 8-10% growth year-on-year. The good thing about the split of our business, which supplies restaurants, food manufacturers and takeaways, is that when people trade up or down from one to another, we can still pick up the business.”

Chairman Shelim Hussain added: “This new distribution centre is another link in the supply chain to our customers, who are primarily the leading Indian, Thai and Chinese restaurants in the UK, as well as retail outlets.

“It is the next step in our expansion programme and allows us to supply a huge number of restaurants and shops within a matter of a few hours driving.”

The Aston site was identified by chartered surveyor Dobson-Grey Land and Development.
