New factory to boost dairy production in Jersey

Jersey Dairy’s multimillion pound 3,000m2 factory, at Trinity in Jersey, is complete.

The new plant includes manufacturing and processing rooms, packing stores for liquid milk products, yogurt, cream, and butter filling, as well as a freezer, laboratory and engineering workshop.

The company has shifted production from Five Oaks on Jersey to the larger site and aims to boost its exports of full cream, low fat milk and dairy products.

"The move is an important step to enhancing the future of the island's dairy industry," said Eamon Fenlon, md, Jersey Dairy.

Maidenhead-based construction firm TSL Projects was commissioned to undertake the project, with mechanical and electrical services provided by building services provider Birchall.

John Graham, Birchall design director said: "We are delighted to have completed our first major project in Jersey, which included successfully overcoming the logistical challenges of delivering large plant to the site from mainland UK," .

Birchall recently fitted out cheese packing plants in Leek and Nuneaton for Kerrygold and Dairy Crest; it was also involved in the completion of Nom's new yogurt plant in Telford, Shropshire.
