Premium soup maker Yorkshire Soup is planning to move to larger premises this year in order to meet growing demand.

Terry Williams, a partner in the business, said the company’s tiny 279 metre squared site at Melmerby business park near Ripon was bursting at the seams.

He added: “We’re operating at capacity now. Ideally, we’d like something at least double the size and we’re looking at opportunities in Thirsk. I would like to think we could be up and running by September.”

The company, which supplies fresh soup to the foodservice sector, selected Waitrose, Booths and Selfridges stores, plus independent retailers, is aiming to launch a range of microwaveable soup cups this year, added Williams. “We’re targeting the top end city sandwich shops. We’re also looking at single serve portions in retail.”

The company, which has doubled its turnover this year and features the local suppliers of its key ingredients on its product labels, is looking to double in size again in the next 12 months, he said.

New soups in its range include tomato and red pepper with Wensleydale; courgette and fennel with rocket and parmesan; Yorkshire onion with Theakston’s ale and mustard; and beetroot, parsnip, ginger and horseradish.
