A range of innovative biomass burners has been launched which are claimed to help companies in the food and drink sector cut waste disposal costs and make savings on fuel bills.
The Rhino R500 from Bioflame has been developed to burn a variety of difficult biomass waste fuels. With the system virtually all organic process wastes can now be burned and converted to energy -- anything from food process waste, to industrial sludge, waste oil, feathers and even egg shells.
Generally if the waste will burn, the system can dispose of the waste and re-use the waste's energy as either hot air, hot water, process steam or even electricity.
The system is simple and highly efficient. Waste is introduced into the treatment unit after either drying or shredding. It is then converted into energy at temperatures of over 850°C.
The heat energy is then retained within the unit to allow 'burnout' and oxidation of the gases produced during the process.
The energy conversion, if required, is then passed either through a boiler or a simple heat exchanger. Emissions from the combustion process are controllable to levels that have little impact on the environment.
Dependent on the type of waste handled, payback is said to be achieved within 18 months to three years.
