Despite Masterfoods' reassurances that an operating review was not focused on Slough (Food Manufacture January, p13), it will cut 500 jobs there with the closure of the Liverpool Road factory. It will cut 200 other jobs in the UK, 120 in Germany and 250 in France.
It will switch production of Twix bars from Slough to France and Germany and Starburst sweets to the Czech Republic. It will invest euro 26m over the next two years at its Dundee Road factory in Slough, which makes Mars bars, Maltesers and other confectionery.
