Prevention is better than cure with fires

High performance fire protection materials lower the risk of damage to manufacturers

Producer of high performance fire protection materials Promat has launched a premium range of fire-stopping materials for building specifiers and contractors.

Products in its Promaseal range include a water-based acrylic intumescent sealant, for sealing small gaps and holes, offering up to four hours fire resistance, and a silicone sealant, for concrete or masonry substrates.

It also offers Fire Barrier -- slabs of high-density mineral fibre with an endothermic coating -- Fire Compound -- a dry powder mixed with water to coat floors and walls -- and its Expansion Joint Strip -- compressive, flexible seals consisting of layers of intumescent material bonded to Class 0 foam. All offer fire resistance of up to four hours.

The company is also undertaking a major review of composite construction panels and their performance in fires to develop panels of much greater fire resistance. It currently offer panels for compartmentation and penetration seals and can upgrade existing panels, with fire resistance properties from 30 minutes to six hours. It also offers additional blast resistance for processes dealing with volatile substances.
