Young's Seafood subsidiary Macrae has opened its new £10M seafood factory at Livingston, Scotland, having outgrown its former site in Granton.

The facility employs 230 and is expected to create a further 50 new jobs.

"We are a dedicated supplier of Waitrose and plan to double our business over the next five years, in line with Waitrose's plans to double its store estate," said Roy Cunningham, Macrae Edinburgh md.

As an energy-saving measure, the factory has installed a heat recovery plant, which reuses heat from chillers. "It saves enough energy to run 400 microwaves for 24 hours per day, every day for a year - a £40,000 saving," said Cunningham.

Macrae's Livingston investment was supported by the Scottish Executive under the Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance.
