A cheese producer is recalling two of its products after listeria contamination was identified.

Traditional Cheese Company is recalling 160g packs of its French Brie with the batch code 5099318001392 and a use-by date of 17 July 2026, as well as 170g packs of its Velvety & Mild French Brie sold under the Dunnes Stores brand, with the batch code 5099874213772 and use-by dates of 10 July 2026, 16 July 2026 and 17 July 2026.

This recall applies to Northern Ireland only. The cheeses have been withdrawn after the presence of Listeria monocytogenes was detected in Dunnes Stores Velvety & Mild French Brie.

The Traditional Cheese Company French Brie has been pulled as a precaution over the possible presence of the bacteria.

In its recall notice, the Dublin-based brand explains the dangers associated with Listeria: “Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.

“Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly. The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The company is advising affected customers not to consume the affected batches, but to dispose of them immediately.

Either product can also be returned to the store from which it was bought for a full refund, with no receipt required.
