In his new role, Chris Tyas will be tasked with helping to drive the Birmingham-based firm’s Net Zero by 2035 agenda.
In an additional capacity, Tyas will also advise on supply chain resilience, having taken up a lead role in the business’ incident management team.
In this capacity, his vast expertise within the sector will no doubt prove valuable to 2 Sisters, which will be looking to maintain business continuity despite the worsening Middle East crisis.
Tyas has enjoyed a lengthy career in a variety of supply chain leadership roles for businesses such as Mars and Nestlé, spanning more than 40 years.
“I was immediately engaged by the bold vision of Ranjit Boparan and his team to lead the way in ensuring a strong, sustainable and responsible future of food for the UK and beyond,” said Tyas.
“It is ambitious but certainly achievable, and I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to contribute and provide the benefit of my many years’ experience in the industry, particularly during this challenging period for food security.”
He is currently working as chair of GS1 UK, a not-for-profit standards organisation delivering traceability and data-sharing infrastructure to help businesses and consumers make more informed, sustainable and safer choices.
Tyas was additionally a non-executive board member at Defra for several years, spending two years as co-chair of the department’s Food Industry Resilience Forum (FIRF), which aimed to help galvanise the sector to work together in navigating the UK food supply chain through the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ranjit Boparan, president of Boparan Holdings Limited, the parent company of 2 Sisters Food Group, added: “We are delighted to have secured the services of Chris, whose leadership in environmental sustainability, together with his depth of experience in UK and global food supply chain resilience, will be of great value as we drive our Next Gen agenda – a bold strategy to develop a food system that supports healthy diets and a healthy planet."
“We are making our biggest ever investment in the future of food, developing next generation factories and farms to provide sustainable, nutritious, affordable, quality food that is kinder to the planet. Chris’ appointment will provide us with even greater specialist expertise as we move into this new era.”
Earlier this year, 2 Sisters parent company The Boparan Private Office acquired Heidemark as the business looks to enhance its automation, innovation, productivity, and sustainability.
