What is your area of focus / What certifications or qualifications are you working towards?

I currently work as a HR Translator at Dunbia Preston and have just completed CIPD Level 3 under the Dunbia apprenticeship, achieving a double distinction. I intend to continue my studies with CIPD Level 5.

What inspired you to pursue an apprenticeship in food manufacturing?

I was inspired to pursue an apprenticeship in food manufacturing because I enjoy working as part of a team and thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments. Food manufacturing is an essential industry as it plays a vital role in everyday life, and being part of a business that contributes to feeding the nation gives real purpose to the work we do.

The Dunbia apprenticeship programme stood out to me because it offers far more than technical training. It provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop professionally, and build strong working relationships, all while learning from experienced colleagues across the business. Across the wide variety of apprenticeships opportunities - from hands on roles in operations and engineering to the administrative side in supply chain, finance, and HR - there’s a focus on building existing knowledge in the role. No two days are the same, and the variety of challenges keeps the role both engaging and rewarding.

Most importantly, the programme supports continuous learning and personal development. It helps you build confidence, resilience and transferable skills that are valuable throughout your career. Knowing that I am growing within a company that invests in its people and offers clear progression opportunities is what inspired me to choose this path. There are many of routes available for colleagues who want to grow their knowledge and progress in their careers, and Dunbia supports everyone in finding what their next steps look like.

How did you find out about this apprenticeship program?

At Dunbia, there is a strong culture of encouraging its people to grow within the company. I was motivated to study the CIPD Level 3, and Dunbia encouraged me to do so through an apprenticeship.

What are some of the key skills you’ve learned so far?

The Dunbia apprenticeship programme has helped me develop essential personal and professional skills, such as effective communication, organisation, problem solving. I have also upskilled in HR administration and onboarding, which will be of great benefit to my career.

How has your mentor or trainer supported your growth?

My mentor checks in regularly, breaks down anything I’m unsure of, and gives practical feedback that I can use straight away. It has helped me close gaps and take on more responsibility. Throughout my apprenticeship, Dunbia has provided strong support for my development. There was great flexibility offered for time to study and attend webinars. On top of that, the HR and L&D teams are always available, ensuring that I have what I need to get the most out of my apprenticeship programme.

What has been the most rewarding part of your apprenticeship?

The most rewarding part of my apprenticeship has been seeing how much I’ve grown in both confidence and capability. I’ve developed strong communication skills, gained valuable industry knowledge, and learned the importance of stepping outside my comfort zone. Being supported to take on new challenges and knowing that I can make a positive contribution to the workplace has made the experience both rewarding and motivating.

Where do you see yourself in five years within the food industry?

I would like to progress to a L&D Coordinator at the Preston site and develop my career at Dunbia. I see myself continuing to progress within the business, supporting colleagues and helping to positively shape workplace culture. I hope to take on increased responsibility, contributing to projects that enhance employee experience, training, and development both across the site and more widely within the organisation.
