The move forms part of the German firm’s ongoing commitment to developing its British operations, having recently pledged £370 million to open 40 new UK stores this year.
This latest £300 million investment drive will serve to support a wide-ranging programme of improvements, including store extensions and enhancement upgrades.
Changes will vary by location, but according to Aldi they will include creating shopping space within stores, as well as the introduction of more sustainable, energy-efficient technology and features such as fridge doors to reduce energy use, and natural refrigerants to help cut carbon emissions.
Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland said: “As well as opening new stores, we’re also investing in existing ones to make sure everyone can get what they need from Aldi.
“By extending some stores, and by upgrading and improving others across the country, we can serve even more customers while creating even better shopping environments for our colleagues and shoppers. Together with our new stores, that will mean more people can access Aldi’s high-quality products at unbeatable prices.”
Further planned improvements will also include updated fixtures and signage, and redesigned store layouts.
Stores set to receive an extension in the coming months include:
- Beck Road, Huddersfield
- Glamorgan Vale RP, Llantrisant
- Bebington Road, Bebington
- Springbank Road, Stirling
- Smithdown Road, Liverpool
- Brooks Road, Lewes
Other Aldi stores across the UK will also benefit from upgrades this year, including locations in Chester-le-Street (County Durham), Handsworth Road (Sheffield), Haverhill (Suffolk), Tybridge Street (Worcester), and Chorley (Lancashire).
