Leading alternative meat brands Meatless Farm and Vegan Fried Chicken (VFC) are set to split from The Vegan Food Group (VFG).

The moves comes as VFC co-founder Adam Lyons return to the business he left in 2024 to take up a “hands-on leadership position” at VFC Foods, the division which operates both Meatless Farm and VFC.

First reported by The Grocer, the VFC Foods arm of VFG is now planning to separate itself from the group.

VFC Foods will now become a distinct entity in its own right, with the full separation due to be completed over the coming weeks.

According to Lyons, the decision was actioned in a bid to simplify the company’s structure and enable a sharper focus on execution, supply chain stability and long-term sustainable growth.

VFC Foods will now be dual funded its original investor and Lyons, who said that the move gives the business “real stability and clarity”.

“My return is centred on stabilisation across operations, finance, and commercial delivery,” Lyons added.

“The business is now governed, funded, and managed independently, with clear accountability and direct leadership.

“VFC Foods Ltd continues to trade as normal and is working closely with retail and manufacturing partners to drive improved operational performance.”

Meatless Farm and VFC’s call to split from VFG comes as the latter today confirmed it had shuttered its Clive’s Purely Plants bakery site in Dartmouth, making 32 jobs redundant.

The firm has also closed its York head office as it opts to focus more on its plant-based factory in Germany.
