Lidl recalls product over bad allergen labelling (Lidl)

Discount grocer Lidl has issued a ‘do not eat’ notice over one of its products after spotting a ‘potential health risk’.

The recall concerns the supermarket’s Deluxe Red Cabbage with Apple, Dried Cranberries & Spices product, which has been found to contain milk – despite the allergen not being emphasised on the label.

This faulty labelling poses potentially serious health concerns for anyone with a milk allergy or intolerance.

As part of the recall notice, Lidl has asked affected customers to avoid consuming this item and to return it to their local store where they will be entitled to a full refund.

To ensure that all bases are covered, the discounter has also contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, who will inform their own members about the recall.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) allergy alert covers any and all of the 480g packs of the product sold, regardless of batch code or use-by date.

The product forms part of Lidl’s premium ‘Deluxe’ range and the grocer has been at pains to highlight that “no other Deluxe products in Lidl GB are affected by this recall.”

Any customers seeking further information can contact Lidl Customer Care on customer.care@lidl.co.uk or 0203 966 5566.

When issuing its product recall, the German firm put out the following statement: “Lidl GB is recalling the above-mentioned product due to milk not being in bold within the back of pack ingredients. This may be a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to milk.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to milk, we advise you not to eat it. Customers are asked to return this product to the nearest store where a full refund will be given.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.”

This news follows hot on the heels of Nestlé’s recent emergency global recall of a range of baby formula products, after several batches were found to contain the cereulide toxin.
