Three Acre Brewery in Sussex is set to double in size to cope with increasing demand for its craft ale.

Three Acre Brewery, based at Blackboys near Uckfield, Sussex, is taking over a neighbouring premises which has been used for the past few years by another independent brewery.

By extending its operation it will give the brewery room to grow as well as increase its space for cold storage.

The company said the expansion comes at just the “right time” for Three Acre Brewery which has been weighing up its options for expansion of brewery to over the long term.

“The expansion will see us more than double our floor space”, explains director Chester Broad.

“This is huge news for us, giving us the room to grow output significantly over the mid and long-term, making much-increased brewing/fermentation capacity possible over time, whilst making the working day more efficient and enjoyable for our team, and enabling new meeting spaces for us, our customers and our investors.”

The change will also bring vastly increased cold storage space for the brewery.

“This expansion will not only accommodate greater volumes of our own beers, but also the combined output of our fledgling wholesale arm Sussex Beer Trader,” said brewing director Jamie Newton.

The diversification has seen Three Acre Brewery expand its operation by buying and selling other local breweries’ beers, as well as their own, to pubs, pub groups, and beer festivals further afield.

“This wholesale operation, alongside our brewing, has meant we’ve become a central curator and handler for Sussex and Kent beers and opened up new markets with highly sought-after regional customers”, added Newton.

The extra brewing capacity will be needed once the Three Acre brewery tap opens in Uckfield’s former historic signal box.
