Wholebake, the healthy snack bar manufacturer, has expanded its operations with the opening of a major new facility in Wales.

The company, which has been backed by private equity investor Elysian Capital since 2021, said the investment supports its ambition to become the UK’s most “capable and flexible bar” manufacturer.

This is the third site for the food manufacturer and is a warehouse that has been converted into a bespoke, food-grade factory. It runs alongside Wholebake’s existing factories in Corwen and Wrexham.

With capacity at Corwen fully utilised, this multi-million-pound investment at the new Wrexham facility provides the additional space needed to strengthen production capabilities, streamline logistics and support long-term growth for its customers, including leading brands and retailers in the healthy snacking sector, it said.

The facility has dedicated production zones which enables more efficient workflows, robust allergen management and flexibility to scale as demand evolves.

It also means greater production capacity, faster turnaround times and the ability to support innovation through Wholebake’s “state-of-the-art” new product development kitchen.

There is also expanded onsite warehousing which allows Wholebake to hold more ingredients and packaging, reducing reliance on third-party storage and improving supply chain efficiency.

Wholebake said that having a second factory in Wrexham has strengthened its position as an employer of choice in the region.

It will be investing in training and multi-skilling, as the new high-speed lines are introduced which would create opportunities for employees to develop.

Robin Williams, chairman, commented: “Expanding into this new facility is a transformational step for Wholebake. It gives us the headroom to grow with our customers, bring innovative new products to market and deliver even more efficiently at scale. Our immediate focus is continuity, retaining our existing equipment and product ranges, but we now have the platform to invest, innovate and expand in the years ahead.”
