The strategic technical and supply collaborative agreement aims to develop “next-generation” ingredient solutions for the UK and Ireland which will “improve performance, nutrition and sustainability.”
The partnership aims to develop and implement technically advanced fava-bean-based ingredient solutions across a number of product groups in the UK and Ireland.
Nutris is a Croatia-based foodtech company founded in 2019 by Zvonimir Sedlic and pioneering the use of fava beans as a plant protein source.
The company has a dedicated state-of-the-art 45,000-tonne facility in Eastern Croatia which fractionates fava into protein, starch and fibre, delivering clean-label, functional ingredients for modern food applications.
AB Mauri, has a significant manufacturing footprint across the UK offering a range of yeast and ingredient solutions to multiple customer markets.
Jim Hawkridge, Product Development & Technical Director, AB Mauri, said that Nutris as an organisation had designed a highly advanced technical process realising significant opportunities in fava-bean-based protein.
Sedlic said: “At Nutris, we believe fava beans are one of the most underutilised yet powerful crops for sustainable food systems. Partnering with AB Mauri - a true innovation leader in bakery - creates an exciting opportunity to bring the functional and clean-label benefits of fava to mainstream applications. We’re thrilled to collaborate and scale solutions that deliver better performance, nutrition, and sustainability across UK and Irish markets.”
David Cooper, Managing Director, AB Mauri, added: “It is no secret that AB Mauri has a clear development model with a rich heritage centred on strategic collaboration with stakeholders.
“The partnership we are jointly announcing with Nutris today is a clear indication of this. We are excited to maintain our traction to date and continue unlocking potential in baking and wider food markets.”
