Roles being advertised include store assistants, managerial positions and cleaners, with Aldi stating that there will be a wide range of permanent positions available.
Aldi store assistants earn a starting wage of £13.02 an hour or £14.35 inside the M25. It also claims to be the only UK supermarket that offers paid breaks to all of its employees, which it says is worth more than £1,425 a year for the average employee.
The discount retailer said that the plans have been made with both the busy festive period and its new store openings in mind.
In August, Aldi announced plans to open an average of one new store a week until the end of 2025, while the retailer has stated its aim to have 1,500 stores in the UK.
Commenting on the announcement, Aldi UK recruitment director Kelly Stokes said: “At Aldi, our goal is to make high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone – and at Christmas, demand for that always increases. That’s why we’re bringing more colleagues into our stores, ensuring we continue to deliver the very best experience for our shoppers.
“Our people are at the heart of our success, and once again we’ll be closing all our stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. It’s important to us that our colleagues have the chance to enjoy a well-deserved break and spend valuable time with their loved ones.”
According to Kantar data, Aldi is now the fourth largest supermarket chain by market share in Britain having recently overtaken Morrisons. It has a 10.9% market share as of 13 July 2025, behind only Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda.
