DropWorks Rum has announced the appointment of Greg Matthew as a non-executive director.

Matthew has more than 19 years of experience as a chief financial officer in a variety of sectors such as finance, investment management, consumer goods and professional services.

He currently serves as CFO at PJ Capital, a family office for a net worth individual, alongside holding non-executive directorships.

The news comes shortly after the Nottinghamshire distillery launched a crowdfunding campaign with Crowdcube, inviting the public to buy shares in its ambitious business. In the first week after the launch, the campaign raised more than £300,000.

Matthew was one of the people to invest in the business and as a board member will bring with him experience of developing and executing financial strategies for both start-ups and mature businesses. He has also overseen complex investment portfolios and driven commercial and operational excellence across international markets.

“We are thrilled to welcome Greg to the board at DropWorks Rum Distillery,” said DropWorks CEO and former Diageo executive Graham Appleyard.

“His deep financial expertise, proven track record in supporting growth and experience guiding both established and disruptive businesses make him an ideal addition as we expand our footprint in the spirits market.”

On his appointment, Matthew added: “DropWorks is the most exciting and innovative brand of the moment, with a clear vision for the future. I’m delighted to join the board and look forward to supporting the team in scaling the business and unlocking new opportunities for growth.”

Founded two years ago by spirits industry figure Lewis Hayes, DropWorks operates the largest distillery of its kind in Europe while its rums are now present in more than 400 venues including The Clove Club, Dorian, Moor Hall, Adam Handling and The Pig Hotels.

Investment options are available through Crowdcube for the next 9 days.
