Sainsbury’s is recalling two houmous products because of the possible presence of E.coli.

The supermarket retailer has taken the precautionary step of withdrawing from sale and recalling the houmous SKUs due to the risk that they contain Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC).

The products in questions are the own brand ‘Classic Houmous 315g’ with a batch code of 8001352 and use by date of 13 September 2025, and the own brand ‘Lemon & Coriander Houmous 200g’ with a batch code of 8062998 and use by date of 14 September 2025.

Symptoms caused by ingesting STEC include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhoea, and haemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.

To alert consumers, Sainsbury’s is displaying point of sale notices in all retail stores that sell these products which explain why they are being recalled.

Anyone that has bought one of the products in question has been advised not to eat it, and to return it to any Sainsbury’s store for a full refund.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this may cause,” Sainsbury’s said.

Elsewhere, Three Tuns Brewery is recalling various beers because they contain undeclared wheat and barley (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label.

This means that the products pose a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to barley, wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease.

Five beer SKUs have been recalled in total, including the Three Tuns XXX (440 ml cans 500 ml bottles), Three Tuns Cleric’s Cure (500 ml bottles), Three Tuns Stout (500 ml bottles), Three Tuns Best (500 ml bottles) and Three Tuns Solstice (500 ml bottles).

The brewery has warned that anyone with an allergy or intolerance to gluten, wheat or barley should avoid all of the above mentioned SKUs if they have a best before date up to and including August 2026.

Three Tuns Brewery has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations which will tell their members about the recall and has issued point of sale notices to retailers that sell the beer.
