Jay&Joy has launched one of its plant-based cheese alternative products in the UK for the first time.

The French vegan cheese producer has announced that its organic alternative to camembert, named ‘Albert’, is available now from online retailers as well as several independent stores in the UK such as Planet Organic, Abel&Cole, Alternativestores, VeganKind, Earth Natural Foods and Village Wholefood.

Albert is 100% plant-based and is made from cashew nuts and French soy, while it retails at £5.80 per 100g pack.

Closely mimicking camembert, Albert has a melting centre, smooth texture and bloomed rind. It can be enjoyed on a cheeseboard, baked whole and shared with others as a centrepiece.

Albert is lactose-free, gluten-free, certified organic and vegan, while its French production supports local agriculture that respects the environment. As a fermented product, Albert also benefits from natural preservation, without additives or preservatives, and has a 30-day shelf life.

Commenting on the launch, the CEO of Jay&Joy, César Augier, said: “The introduction of Albert to the UK market marks a new stage in Jay&Joy’s development by reinforcing its presence in the UK. Rich and indulgent, Albert is crafted with just a handful of ingredients and a method rooted in traditional French cheesemaking.

“We’re not solely catering to British consumers who buy organic products; we invite all cheese enthusiasts, even those yet to try plant-based alternatives, to discover Albert for themselves.”

In addition to Albert, Jay&Joy manufactures a diverse range of plant-based cheese alternatives which are on sale in France now.

This includes four aged cheeses – Josephine (plant-based alternative to Brie), Jeanne (plant-based alternative to Blue cheese), Jil (plant-based alternative to Goat cheese) and Jean-Jacques (plant-based washed-rind cheese) – and three fresh cheeses – Juliette (plant-based alternative to grated Emmental), Janis (plant-based alternative to Feta) and Justine (plant-based alternative to cream cheese).

In other news, Jason’s Sourdough and Toast Brewing have collaborated on the launch of a limited edition beer aimed at tackling food waste.
