Oscar Mayer has partnered with the Company Shop Group to offer discounted food, drink and household products to staff at its site in Wrexham.

From 26 August, more than 1,000 Oscar Mayer workers in Wrexham gained access to a variety of surplus stock at “greatly reduced prices”, a project that aims to tackle food waste and its environmental impact.

In 2024, Company Shop Group redistributed more than 46,000 tonnes of surplus food and drink that would otherwise have gone to waste from its 13 sites across the UK.

Commenting on the partnership with Company Shop Group, chief people and ESG officer at Oscar Mayer Sarah Hill said: “Opening Oscar’s Shop here in Wrexham is a proud moment for our business. It’s a practical way to ease everyday costs for our colleagues while also playing our part in tackling unnecessary waste.

“Our partnership with Company Shop Group builds on a wider commitment to environmental and social responsibility – from reducing surplus to supporting colleagues in the local community. This launch marks another milestone in creating a more resilient and responsible workplace for the future.”

Chris Burns, managing director at Company Shop Group, added: “Our vision is to create a world where no surplus products go to waste by working with partners like Oscar Mayer to help them reduce waste by redistributing their surplus products.

“This new shop demonstrates our commitment to supporting the industry by creating sustainable and innovative solutions that helps partners deliver their environmental goals, and provide a great benefit for their colleagues, who can save money on their weekly shopping bills.”

The announcement comes just a month after over 500 Unite the Union members at the Wrexham site concluded a long running strike over fire and rehire practices.

In July, the union reached an agreement with Oscar Mayer which included the reinstatement of 26 dismissed workers and improvements to holiday compensation.

Speaking after the agreement was reached, Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is a tremendous victory by low paid workers who were prepared to stand up to their employer and fight back against pay cuts while defending fellow workers.

“This victory shows how Unite uses every possible avenue to exposes corporate greed and deliver for its members. There is power in a union.”
