Lidl has announced that is raising entry-level hourly pay to £13 from next month.

Entry-level pay will increase from £12.75 per hour to £13, rising to £13.95 based on length of service, while in London, hourly pay will rise from £14 to £14.35, rising to £14.65 based on length of service.

When the changes come into effect in September, it will represent the fifth pay rise announced by Lidl in two years, with the retailer stating that its employees enjoy higher pay rates than both the real living wage nationwide and the London living wage. Lidl employees are also entitled to a 10% in-store discount.

Over the past two years Lidl has invested £70 million in pay, although this has come alongside head office job cuts.

Commenting on the announcement, Lidl GB chief people officer Stephanie Rogers said: “Over the last two years, we’ve held our spot as the fastest growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket.

“This continued success is made possible because of the ongoing efforts of our colleagues, including customer assistants, shift managers, warehouse operatives and cleaners, whose commitment is greatly appreciated. In recognition of their contribution, we continue to ensure we are market leading on pay.”

In Britain, Lidl employs more than 35,000 people across its 980 stores and 14 distribution centres.

According to Kantar data published on 13 July 2025, Lidl is the sixth largest grocery retailer in Britain, possessing an 8.3% market share. It is only just behind Morrisons in fifth, with a larger jump to Aldi ahead in fourth.
