Aldi has revealed the location of the 23 stores set to be upgraded before the end of the year.

The upgrades are part of a larger investment plan which includes the opening of one store per week on average before the year is out.

Between now and the end of December, Aldi stores in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and Ebbw Vale in Wales will undergo major extensions, while a further 21 stores will benefit from other upgrades, including refreshed fixtures, enhanced layouts and improved sustainability features.

Aldi is now the fourth largest grocery retailer by market share in Britain according to the latest Kantar figures having recently overtaken Morrisons. It now only trails Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda.

“Our investment into our store estate is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the very best shopping experience for our customers,” said Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK.

“By extending and refreshing our existing sites, we’re providing more sustainable and convenient stores, ensuring they continue to meet the needs of the communities they serve for years to come.”

In other Aldi news, the discount retailer has announced that it is seeking a new official ‘crisp taster’ for 2025.

Aldi launched the role last year and is now accepting applications from members of the public. The selected applicant will then receive free crisp samples and provide reviews for Aldi buyers.
