The farm shop announced the recall of jars of ‘Daylesford Organic Cacao Double Nut Butter 230g’ because some jars may contain metal ball bearings, which present a choking hazard and make the product unsafe to eat.
Jars with the batch code 230625 and a February 2027 best before date have been impacted, with consumers urged not eat their contents by Daylesford Organic and the Food Standards Agency.
To alert customers, Daylesford Organic has issued a recall notice to its customers explaining why the product is being recalled.
“We are recalling Daylesford Organic Cacao Double Nut Butter because of a physical contamination risk in the product,” the farm shop said.
“This product may contain metal ball bearings which presents a choking hazard and makes it unsafe to eat.
“Do not consume and return for a full refund.”
Daylesford Organic offers “fresh produce, artisan wine and spirits, high-welfare meat and essential larder items” from its own organic farm and further afield.
In related news, the Food Standards Agency has updated an alert relating to various Dubai chocolate products which contain undeclared nuts.
After the body warned last month that packs of Neosis Schokolade Love of Dubai chocolate pose a “serious risk to anyone with an allergy to peanuts” as a result of the labelling error, consumers and food businesses have since been warned about a Fix it Dubai-style chocolate product, as well as a counterfeit product posing as Le Damas.
Commenting on the safety issues associated with imported Dubai chocolate, Georgina Stewart, nutrition and regulation adviser at food consultancy The Nutrient Gap, told Food Manufacture that there is growing evidence of “viral food trends outpacing food safety”.
“This issue with imported Dubai-style chocolate highlights a wider problem,” she said.
“While the buzz from TikTok might make these products feel exciting and new, the truth is many of them simply don’t meet UK legal requirements for labelling – particularly when it comes to allergens."
