On top of store openings in London and Deeside that were previously announced, Aldi has now confirmed that stores will be coming to locations such as Eastbourne in East Sussex, Nelson in Treharris, Waterbrook in Kent, Houghton le Spring in Tyne and Wear, Meadowfield in Durham, Litherland in Liverpool and Brimington in Chesterfield.
A further 35 current stores will also undergo refurbishments before the end of the year.
The discount retailer is set to invest around £650 million across Britain via its store opening and refurbishment programme in 2025, with each new store creating around 40 new jobs.
In June, Aldi announced that it is actively recruiting for 1,000 new store roles as it ramps up its store openings programme. Aldi store assistants currently earn a starting hourly rate of £12.75, increasing to £13.66, while in London, the starting rate is £14.05 per hour, rising to £14.35.
Commenting on the plans, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, Jonathan Neale, said: “At Aldi, our goal is to make sure people across the UK have access to affordable, high-quality food, and opening new stores is key to making that happen.
“We’re now opening an average of one new store a week for the rest of 2025, showing just how ambitious our plans are to build a store network that will help us reach millions of new customers. But it’s not just about openings - it’s also about making sure we have the best-paid teams in place to run them.”
According to Kantar data, Aldi is now the fourth largest supermarket chain by market share in Britain having recently overtaken Morrisons. It has a 10.9% market share as of 13 July 2025, behind only Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda.
In other news, four people have been arrested on suspicion of fraud relating to the distribution and sale of basmati rice in counterfeit packaging.
