Waitrose is recalling an egg product because certain batches may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Packs of the ‘Waitrose and Partners Egg and Spinach Protein Pot 90g’ with a use by date of 31 July 2025 or 1 August 2025 are being recalled because of the possible Salmonella contamination.

The recall is specific to England, with point of sale notices warning customers about the recall now on display in all Waitrose stores selling the products.

The notices urge consumers that have purchased the Waitrose and Partners Egg and Spinach Protein Pot with either of date codes listed above not consume it. Instead, they should return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

“We are recalling Waitrose and Partners Egg and Spinach Protein Pot as a precautionary measure due to the potential presence of Salmonella, which may cause illness if consumed,” Waitrose said.

“We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”

The Food Standards Agency has warned that symptoms caused by ingesting food contaminated with Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps.

“If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school, or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others,” the agency added.

Earlier this month, Waitrose announced it was recalling certain packs of its ‘Indian Takeaway for 2’ because they contain undeclared sesame and soya.

Meanwhile, Tesco is recalling three pasta salad products because they have also been contaminated with Salmonella.
