About the Heroes and Heretics
Originally called HAH Whisky named after his ex-business partner’s ancestor, the company underwent a rebrand to Heroes and Heretics.
The founder, Craig Chidgey, restructured the business become a standalone entity, allowing for better risk management and an expansion into other products beyond whisky.
‘I hated whisky’
Originally from Manchester, Chidgey moved to London, worked in real estate, and later transitioned into wine investment. This eventually led to his career in cask whisky.
He admitted he initially hated whisky due to ‘bad experiences’ when he was younger! But his love was reignited later with a 30-year-old Strathclyde grain whisky, which he enjoyed for its complex flavours.
Ups and downs and a new venture on the horizon
Chidgey focuses on bespoke premium bottlings and whilst the business boomed during Covid, there’s been a lot of ups and downs.
He has since become tee total for health reasons and admits the market for alcohol is tough in general.
As a result his mental wellbeing has suffered during his time running Heroes and Heretics, but the experience has also taught him to take a step back and make the most of life.
While he continues his venture of Heroes and Heretics, he has just launched a canned water brand, Aquatonic, fuelled by his own passion for health.
