Toast Brewing and Tiny Rebel have partnered on a new beer that is brewed with 19,000 slices of surplus bakery bread.

The limited-edition 4.5% Hazy Pale is the first release as part of the Breaking Bread series, which will see Toast Brewing create new beers with a range of different partners including Adnams and Northern Monk.

All beers from the Breaking Bread series will be available exclusively in more than 500 Co-op stores nationwide, with 440ml cans of the Hazy Pale set to retail at £3.

Since 2015, Toast Brewing has used surplus bakery bread to make beer, highlighting the fact that 20 million slices of bread are wasted every single day in the UK.

Meanwhile, Tiny Rebel is the biggest independent craft brewery in Wales, which like Toast Brewing is a certified B Corp.

Co-founder of Toast Brewing Rob Wilson said that he was thrilled to kick off the Breaking Bread series by partnering with Tiny Rebel.

“This beer series is all about connecting people – across the bar, across the brewing industry, and across communities – to raise a Toast to planet Earth,” Wilson added.

Meanwhile, Tiny Rebel co-founder Brad Cummings explained that the team jumped at the opportunity to work with Toast Brewing.

“As this project shows, they also want to do as much as they can to reduce the environmental cost on our planet,” Cummings said.

“As a B Corp, we’re always looking at ways we can best impact those around us - and this collab did exactly that - while also letting us get a great-tasting beer out into the wild with Co-op.”

Finally, Co-op beer buyer Andrew Birdsy said that the retailer wanted to partner with brands that shared its “commitment to sustainability and the environment”.

“[This] is important to us and our members and customers, so we’re thrilled to be adding this exciting new beer from Toast Brewing and Tiny Rebel exclusively to our stores,” Birdsy concluded.
