The parent company behind brand such as McVitie’s, Jacob’s, GODIVA, Flipz and Ülker made the announcement after launching its commercial enterprise and distribution centre in Tashkent, which is the capital city of Uzbekistan.
The distribution centre will enable Pladis to bring its Ülker brand to consumers across the country, with the brand set to reach more than 30,000 sales points through regional dealerships in 12 different cities.
The firm is aiming to announce its presence in the market by delivering 105 different Ülker products to these sales points with regular weekly visits during the first year.
Pladis has had a presence in Central Asia for more than 25 years, having manufactured chocolate and biscuit products for Ülker in Kazakhstan.
“As one of Central Asia’s most dynamic and fastest-growing markets, with a population nearing 38 million, Uzbekistan presents a significant opportunity to strengthen our presence in the region and expand the reach of our Ülker brand,” said Özgür Kölükfakı, managing director of Pladis Türkiye and Central Asia.
“Our market entry in Uzbekistan allows us to bring our products to millions of consumers, while deepening our long-term commitment to the region through strong local partnerships and meaningful economic contribution.”
Founded in 2016, Pladis operates 27 bakeries and factories in 11 countries while its brands are sold in more than 110 nations around the world. The group employs 16,000 people and is headquartered in London.
According to its results for the 2023 financial year, group revenue topped £2.7 billion.
Earlier this year, Sridhar Ramamurthy and Tim Brett assumed temporary oversight of operations at Pladis following the sudden departure of former CEO Salman Amin who resigned for personal reasons.
Former Pladis UK and Ireland boss David Murray was also promoted to the newly created role of global chief commercial officer, while Mete Buyurgan has stepped up as the new UK and Ireland lead.
