The price of Mamia First Infant Formula will remain at £6.99 for the remainder of 2025, with Aldi explaining the move as being part of its “ongoing commitment to provide affordable, quality products for parents”.
The discount retailer also claimed that it’s the price point of its baby formular represents a £5 saving when compared to the average price of formula sold elsewhere during 2024.
Aldi pointed to data from the First Steps Nutrition Trust which showed that baby formula prices remain close to historic highs, with the most expensive product on the market now priced at £18.
Meanwhile, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found that the infant formula market is highly concentrated with just three firms accounting for more than 90% of supply, a trend which has seen prices rise by 18% to 36% in the last two years.
Commenting on the announcement, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK Julie Ashfield said: “Shoppers should not be paying over the odds for the essentials. As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, we’re committed to keeping prices low on the products our customers rely on most.
“As formula prices remain at historic highs across the market, we want to reassure parents that at Aldi, there will be no unwelcome surprises at the checkout – we’re keeping our Mamia First Infant Formula at just £6.99 for at least the remainder of this year.”
Earlier this year, Aldi also launched its Mamia New Parent Fund through which the retailer is giving out £100 in vouchers to new parents every week.
Aldi currently has 1,050 stores in the UK and has committed to opening 10 more over the summer, in addition to upgrading 30 others.
Each store opening will create 40 jobs for people in the local area, with Aldi investing around £650 million to fund the expansion.
