The pizza brand is recalling one date code of its ‘Zizzi Vegan Jackfruit Pepperoni Rustica Pizza’ because it contains milk that is not declared on the label.
This means that the batch of pizzas poses a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.
Any pizza with a 5105 batch code and 15 July 2026 best before date has been impacted by the issue. The batch code and best before date can found on the side of the box.
The pizza SKU in question is sold in 400g packs and comes with an 8ml container of chilli oil.
Anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk should not consume a pizza from the batch referenced above and has been advised by Zizzi to return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund, with or without a receipt.
Zizzi has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall, while point of sale notices are being displayed in stores that stock the product.
“We are recalling Zizzi Vegan Jackfruit Pepperoni Rustica Pizzas due to potential contamination with milk,” Zizzi said.
Customers can also contact Zizzi directly if they have any questions.
Zizzi operates a chain of Italian restaurants in addition to supplying retailers with its ‘Zizzi at Home’ range of pizzas, pastas, desserts and side dishes. The firm, which is part of the Azzurri Group, has more than 135 locations across the UK and Ireland, while its products are stocked by Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose.
In the summer of 2023, Zizzi announced plans to invest in its in-house team and focus on NPD for its frozen range.
“We took the step to bring the brand inhouse and move away from a licensed model of production,” managing director Harry Heeley said at the time.
