Lidl announces recall due to plastic contamination

Damasgate Wholesale is recalling all 100g packs of ‘Sofra Potato Chips Seasoning’.

Lidl is recalling several products that may contain pieces of plastic.

Several different multipacks of fruit and nut bars are being recalled by the discount retailer because they may have been contaminated with pieces of plastic, which makes them unsafe to eat.

The recall involves 5x35g multipacks of Alesto brand ‘Cocoa & Orange 5 Raw Fruit & Nut Bars’, ‘Blueberry Muffin 5 Raw Fruit & Nut Bars’, ‘Salted Caramel 5 Raw Fruit & Nut Bars’ and ‘Berry 5 Raw Fruit & Nut Bars’.

In an alert posted on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website, Lidl said that packs with either November 2025 or December 2025 best before dates and L24316 or L24337 batches codes have been implicated in the recall and their contents should not be consumed.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all Lidl stores that sell these products explaining to customers why the products are being recalled. Anyone that has purchased one of the packs should return it to any Lidl store for a full refund.

“Lidl GB is recalling the [products referenced above] due to [the] potential presence of plastic foreign bodies which may represent a choking hazard,” the retailer said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.

No other Alesto products in Lidl GB stores are affected by this recall.

In related news, Spar Northern Ireland has extended its chicken products recall to include additional batches.

This is after it discovered that packs of ‘Enjoy Local Cooked Chicken Pieces 150g’ and ‘Enjoy Local Cooked Chicken Slices 150g’ with either the batch code 5128 or best before date 23 May 2025 had also been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Details about the other best before dates and batch codes impacted can be found here.

People that ingest Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can develop Listeriosis, with 179 cases reported in England and Wales during 2024.
