Sweet maker Swizzels is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the iconic Refreshers brand with the launch of a new Tropical Chew Bar.

Capitalising on a growing consumer interest in fruity flavours, this new mango and pineapple flavoured twist on the Chew Bar retains the novel fizzy sherbet centre the treat is known for.

This new launch joins the likes of the original Lemon Chew Bar – as well as strawberry, sour apple and cherry cola variations – in the Refreshers Countlines range.

The sweet maker’s range also includes Refreshers Stickpacks in the original lemon and strawberry flavours, and the Refreshers Choos hanging bags featuring five popular fizzy flavours – lemon, strawberry, apple, pineapple, and raspberry.

‘Stood the test of time’

Clare Newton, trade and shopper marketing manager at Swizzels, said: “Refreshers is a much-loved brand that’s stood the test of time, continuing to win over fans with its unmistakable flavour and remarkable fizz.

“We wanted to bring a new twist to the nation’s favourite chew bar to mark 70 years since its creation and highlight how it’s still an iconic and ever-evolving brand that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

“Tropical flavours are having a real moment with consumers this year, which is why we’ve opted for a mango & pineapple flavour, helping retailers to appeal to demand for a fresh twist on classic confectionery.”

Community project

Swizzels is also commemorating the anniversary with the launch of ‘The Great Community Refresh’, a nationwide initiative which invites people to nominate a community project, group or asset in need of a ‘refresh’.

Examples might include a community garden that needs reviving, a mural to brighten a community centre or a local group in need of new supplies. Seven winners will receive a prize of £1,000 to make their community refresh a reality.

Refreshers Tropical Chew Bar is available to wholesalers in price-marked boxes of 60, with an MRSP of 20p.
