Asda has recalled a chicken product because it has the incorrect use-by date.

Packs of the own brand ‘Hot & Spicy Chicken Breast Slices (160g)’ with a use-by date of 30 May 2025 are being recalled because the expiration date information is incorrect, making the product potentially unsafe to eat.

Impacted packs can also be identified by the barcode number, which is 506308913170.

The Food Standards Agency described the recall as precautionary, but no further information about the correct use-by date was provided.

Asda is displaying point of sale notices in all stores that sell the product urging anyone that has purchased a pack with a 30 May use-by date not to consume the contents.

Instead, customers have been advised to return the product to their nearest Asda store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

The notices were issued on 29 April and will be displayed in stores until 30 May.

“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused,” Asda said.

“If you would like any further information, please contact Asda Customer Relations.”

This recall comes not long after Asda announced it was recalling a pork product which contains allergens that are not declared on the label.

Packs of ‘Simple To Cook Asian Inspired Pork Belly Slices 380g’ were recalled because they had mispacked with ‘Simple To Cook Tomato & Mozzarella Pork Meatballs’, which contain milk and sulphites. However, this was not mentioned on the label.

In related news, Asda has been fined £410,000 after it was discovered that two of its stores in Cornwall were selling out-of-date food.

Cornwall Council’s Trading Standards Team launched an investigation into the sale of out-of-date food by Asda after receiving several complaints from consumers.

An inspection of Asda’s Penryn store on 30 October 2023 found 58 food items on shelves past their use-by date, including children’s yoghurts which were nearly four weeks out of date.
