The Compleat Food Group has announced the appointment of its first chief operating officer.

Brian Byrne will take up the newly created role on 1 May 2025 and has been tasked with strengthening the group’s leadership team and operational capabilities, while also supporting its growth strategy.

Byrne arrived at The Compleat Food Group in 2023 as chief procurement officer and has played a “pivotal role in transforming the group’s procurement function” during that time.

He joined the group from Fox’s Burton’s Companies UK where he was also chief procurement officer and has spent more than two decades in supply chain leadership roles at firms including Hilton Foods and Tesco.

“Brian has already made a significant impact since joining us, and his promotion to Chief Operating Officer is a natural next step as we evolve our business,” said Nick Field, chief executive officer at The Compleat Food Group.

“His expertise, leadership and drive for excellence will be instrumental as we continue to build a supply chain that is agile, resilient and built for the future. I look forward to working even more closely with him as we continue our mission to create food to feel good.”

Byrne said that he was delighted to have been promoted to the role of chief operating officer and is ready to help shape the next phase of growth for the group.

“We have an incredible team and a strong foundation to build upon,” Byrne added.

“I’m excited to work across our supply chain and operational teams to ensure we deliver great food, even more efficiently, to our customers and consumers.”

Formed in 2021 following the merger of Addo Food Group and Winterbotham Darby, The Compleat Food Group owns brands such as Pork Farms, Wall’s Pastry, Squeaky Bean, Unearthed and Harvey and Brockless, while it recently announced the acquisition of The Real Yorkshire Pudding Company for an undisclosed fee.

Employing more than 5,500 people across 16 sites, it has an annual turnover in excess of £1 billion.
