Packs of ‘Morrisons The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages (400g)’ with a use by date of 1 March 2025 are being recalled because it has been learned that they might have been contaminated with “small pieces of blue plastic”.
The possible presence of pieces of blue plastic makes the product unsafe to eat and Morrisons has urged consumers not to eat the sausages involved in the recall.
The supermarket is displaying point of sale notices in all stores that sell the product, which inform consumers about the recall and ask them to return affected packs to their nearest Morrisons location for a full refund, no receipt required.
“No other products are affected by the issue,” Morrisons said.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”
The point of sale notices will be displayed until 8 May.
In other retail news, Asda co-owner Mohsin Issa has stepped down from his role as CEO of convenience store operator EG Group.
Issa, who holds a 22.5% stake in Asda, stepped away from his role with the supermarket in September 2024 to focus on his work with EG Group.
However, less than a year later he has stepped away from EG Group too, although he will retain a substantial minority shareholding and remain on the board as a non-executive director.
“Now is the natural time for me to step back from my day-to-day duties at EG as it embarks on the next stage of its journey,” Issa said.
“Following the sale of the majority of the UK business to Asda, the group is a very different company now. The US market is now the largest region by sales and represents the biggest growth opportunity and where EG needs to have its lead executives based.”
