Damasgate Wholesale is recalling all 100g packs of ‘Sofra Potato Chips Seasoning’ because the product contains peanuts, despite this not being mentioned on the label. As a result, the product poses a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.
Packs with all currently issued best before dates and lot numbers are involved in the recall.
Damasgate Wholesale has been advised by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice which explain to customers why the product is being recalled. The notices also urge anyone with an allergy to peanuts that has purchased the product to return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
Based in west London, Damasgate Wholesale is a supplier of Mediterranean food to businesses across Europe, including in the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium and Spain.
It stocks more than 1,500 products, supplying foodservice operators, cash and carries, independent ethnic retailers and supermarkets such as ASDA.
This is the second product recall Damasgate Wholesale has announced in in the past two months, with the firm recalling 12 batches of Sofra Garlic Powder during March. The garlic powder was also recalled because it contained undeclared peanuts.
In related news, Asda is a recalling a pork product because certain packs contain milk and sulphites which are not mentioned on the label.
The recall relates to packs of ‘Asda Simple To Cook Asian Inspired Pork Belly Slices 380g’ with a use by date of 25 April 2025 and a barcode number of 5063089827178.
