Animal feed ingredients business SugaRich has acquired JD Bamber LTD for an undisclosed sum, expanding its foothold in the UK.

SugaRich has acquired the surplus food processing business of JD Bamber Ltd in Preston, helping to strengthen its position within this market, as director of the business Jim Bamber is set to retire.

SugaRich, which has facilities in both the north and south of England, has been reprocessing surplus food products from food manufacturers, distributors and retailers into animal feed ingredients for more than 50 years. It provides a full national factory surplus food production service, managing the whole clearance process right from the factory floor to transportation away from site.

The acquisition comes at a time when alternative feeding solutions are becoming ever more important, with farmers seeking to improve sustainability, alongside – as SugaRich’s MD points out – consolidation within the food and feed sector.

Commenting on the acquisition, Alex Keogh, managing director of SugaRich said: “It is clear that consolidation in the food and feed sector is accelerating, aligning with our growth strategy. We remain committed to expanding our UK presence and delivering innovative solutions for surplus foodstuffs to a broader customer base.”

“This move not only strengthens our presence in the UK but also reinforces our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence in the co-products industry. We are excited to welcome new partners and customers and look forward to building a stronger, more dynamic business together,” added Andy Newton, CEO of the SugaRich Group

In the coming weeks, the company will transition the JD Bamber production operations into SugaRich sites.
