Based in São Paulo, Aplinova is a provider of specialty ingredients for a wide range of markets including food and drink.
Founded in 1987, the firm has reported year-on-year growth since 2020 and recently opened a new facility in Jundiaí that includes an innovation centre.
Prinova, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the NAGASE Group, has manufacturing facilities in the UK, China and the US, while it has also looked to increase its footprint in Latin America in recent years.
In addition to the Aplinova deal, the firm acquired Brazilian citrus oil processor Flavor Tec in 2023.
Commenting on the acquisition, Prinova president and CEO Richard McEvoy described the Brazilian ingredients market as “increasingly important”, with Aplinova emerging as a key player.
“We’re excited to bring them into the Prinova family,” he said.
“This is another big milestone on our growth journey, and a crucial step in our long-term mission to expand our global presence. Most importantly, it will bring significant benefits to manufacturers, both in the LatAm region, and across the world.”
Group managing director Barry Kelly was also full of praise for Aplinova and its “deserved” reputation for innovation.
“We’re delighted that Prinova’s customers will now have access to a new wealth of technical expertise and industry knowledge,” Kelly added.
“At the same time, we’re looking forward to ensuring that we maintain the high levels of service that Aplinova’s customers have long enjoyed.”
Prinova became part of the NAGASE Group in 2019, an Osaka headquartered multinational specialising in the fields of chemicals, plastics, electronics materials, cosmetics and health foods.
“We have a long-term vision for global growth, but it’s also crucial to us that we maintain our core values,” commented Masaya Ikemoto, representative director and senior managing executive officer at NAGASE Group.
“Aplinova is a company that shares our passion for innovation, and our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers and end-consumers. At a time when consumer-driven demand for healthy and functional products has never been higher, the opportunities that this acquisition will create are incredibly exciting.”
