The launch was facilitated by a new partnership with drinks wholesaler Anzac Drinks, and will see the Welsh brand service on and off trade markets with 440ml cans of its ‘Wrexham Lager’ and ‘Wrexham Export’ beers.
The news follows Wrexham Lager’s expansion into the Hungarian, US, Australian and Scandinavian markets over the past 12 months.
“Expanding into Northern Ireland is another exciting achievement for the Wrexham Lager Beer Co, and our new partnership with Anzac Drinks opens the door to a vibrant new market for us to build momentum in,” said CEO James Wright.
“It’s another great opportunity to introduce our award-winning lagers to drinkers who value quality, craftsmanship, and authenticity.
“Our expansion into Northern Ireland is the first of many exciting developments we have in the pipeline for 2025.”
Wrexham Lager was first brewed in 1882 and claims the title of being the oldest lager brand in the UK.
Alongside its expansion into new markets under the leadership of Wright, actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds became co-owners of the company last year.
The pair, which invested in the brand with minority investors the Allyn family, now co-own Wrexham Lager alongside the Roberts family who took over the brewery in 2011.
McElhenney and Reynolds are also the majority owners of the football club Wrexham AFC, around which they have based the documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
Speaking when they first invested in the drinks firm in October 2024, they said: “As co-chairs of Wrexham AFC we have learned a lot.
“The connection between club and community, the intricacies of the offsides rule and the occasional need for beer – especially after finance meetings. Wrexham Lager has a 140-year-old recipe and a storied history and we’re excited to help write its next chapter.”
Meanwhile, Food Manufacture spoke to Wright shortly after his appointment as CEO, where he discussed his plans for the future.
