Following the completion of an integration period that began shortly after the deal was completed in December, Eviosys has been rebadged as Sonoco Metal Packaging EMEA.
Sonoco Metal Packaging EMEA will operate as Sonoco’s European arm, responsible for 40% of the firm’s global sales.
As Eviosys, the firm specialised in the manufacture of tin-plate food cans and ends, aerosol cans, metal closures and promotional packaging, and operated out of seven sites in the UK including an R&D centre in Wantage, Oxfordshire. It currently employs 6,400 people and makes 26 billion products per year.
According to Sonoco, the acquisition has made it the largest metal packaging manufacturer in the world, while also quadrupling its number of metal packaging plants.
Speaking on the announcement, Sonoco president and CEO Howard Coker said: “Today marks a significant milestone as Eviosys officially becomes Sonoco Metal Packaging EMEA.
“Guided by our vision of ‘Better Packaging Better Life’, we are driven to support our customers, communities, and planet with solutions that make a real difference. By adding our EMEA expertise with our existing footprint, we now have become a global leader in metal packaging.”
Meanwhile, Tomás López, CEO of the newly minted Sonoco Metal Packaging EMEA, hailed the start of a “new chapter” for the business.
“This transformation is a powerful statement of our ambition to lead in sustainable metal packaging while honouring the legacy of Eviosys,” López said.
“Our 200-year journey has been defined by innovation and a commitment to doing the right.”
