Muller UK & Ireland has been granted planning permission to expand its manufacturing site in Market Drayton.

The dairy brand secured approval from Shropshire Council earlier this month for plans to redevelop its existing fruit production building, currently used to manufacture fruit puree for a variety of Muller products.

The facility has been operational for more than 10 years and will be retained as part of the development, although elements including the internal floor build up and the majority of furniture and fittings will be demolished as part of the project.

Two people are currently employed within the facility, with eight new full-time jobs set to open up once work is completed.

Describing the current purpose of the facility in the application, Muller wrote: “[The] existing building is utilised for the handling and packaging of frozen fruit, to now be used for the production of consumable goods.

“[The] overall site is generally used for the production, packaging and distribution of consumable goods.”

The application continued by detailing the works Muller is planning on undertaking.

“Construction of internal partitions and installation of perishable goods production machinery within an existing commercial factory building,” it said.

“Works required to the adjacent private road in order to provide additional external space for proposed plant. Plant and silo storage to be positioned externally to the building.”

The application was first submitted to Shropshire Council on 3 February, with all aspects of the project granted full planning permission.

“We are committed to supporting the local Shropshire community and investing in our existing sites, as we continue to focus on growth and delivering high-quality products to the nation,” a spokesperson for Muller UK & Ireland told Food Manufacture.

“We’re excited about this site development and look forward to sharing more details in due course.”
