According to the company, its chocolate drink has 50% less sugars than any other flavoured milk drink (dairy or dairy-free).
Updates to the recipe have also been made to its Barista Oat milk, which has had the acidity regulator (dipotassium phosphate) removed.
The last year has also seen Three Robins scale up to a point where it can now transition fully to Scottish Oats – a long-standing ambition for Dunediner Robins.
Three Robins was launched in 2022 by mum-of-three, Karen Robinson, after her middle child developed a lactose intolerance. Robinson was keen to find a plant-based alternative that would fit in with family life, whilst meeting her kids’ nutritional needs. The brand had always been low in sugar, but these latest recipe tweaks have further underpinned its ‘clean’ deck credentials.
The recipe changes come as the brand embraces a new identity which aim to reaffirm its Scottish origins, improve shelf presence, highlight its nutritional value, and flag its Barista milk’s gluten-free status.
The company has also secured a new listing at Scotmid (the Scottish Midland Co-operative Society) across 177 stores.
Amidst consolidation in plant-based foods, demand for milk-free alternatives continues with recent Mintel data showing that 30% of UK consumers are searching the dairy-free aisle, with 1 in 4 having tried a milk alternative in the last 12 months.
Commenting on the trio of announcements, Robinson said: “We may be a new voice in the chiller cabinet but thanks to timely grants from the likes of Scottish Enterprise, Food & Drink Federation Scotland and Mission Ventures we’ve been able to fast-track our range evolution. Of course, budgetary support is invaluable, but we place just as much credit to like-minded voices who’ve been on hand to sense-check our thinking and provide moral support – [including] Buy Women Built, The Kids Food Collective, and Female Founders Rise.”
