Avara Foods has been engaged in a major restructure over the past two years.

Avara Foods has promoted Sonia Pollock to the role of chief financial officer.

While it appears that the poultry manufacturer did not make a public announcement at the time, Food Manufacture can reveal that Pollock was promoted from the role of acting finance director to CFO last month.

Based on a Companies House filing by Avara Foods on 14 March, Pollock was named as a company director on 1 February.

Pollock has been described as a great example of internal progression, with the promotion coming in response to her excellent work.

“Following a period of major restructuring, this is an exciting time for Avara as we look to realise the benefits of creating a leaner more efficient supply chain,” Pollock said.

“As the new CFO my focus is to make sure we continue to build a successful business plan aligned to a changing market underpinned by solid financial foundations.”

Pollock’s appointment came shortly before the firm’s full accounts for the year up to 31 May 2024 were published.

During that period, Avara Foods suffered a £49.4 million loss, a significant change from the £12.76 million loss it suffered in 2022/23.

Over the past few years, Avara Foods has undertaken a major business restructure aimed at creating a “more efficient and productive supply chain” which included closure of two processing sites and the creation of a new ‘added value’ facility.

Speaking at the time, Avara Foods CEO Andy Dawkins said: “While closing facilities and losing valued colleagues is never easy, we did this in the right way in line with our strong values. I am heartened by the opening of our new facility at Wednesbury which has grown quickly on the back of strong customer support.”
