Coca-Cola HBC Ireland & Northern Ireland has completed its acquisition of BDS Vending Solutions.

The deal, which was first announced in February 2024, had been subject to an investigation by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in the Republic of Ireland, but was cleared and subsequently completed last month.

No financial details of the agreement have been made public.

Founded in 1993, BDS Vending is a food and drink vending services business based in Dublin, with depots located in Dublin, Cork, Belfast, Galway, Sligo, Limerick and Wexford. It also possesses a fleet of approximately 2,000 vending machines.

The acquisition is part of Coca-Cola HBC’s strategy to “enhance its route-to-market” by improving its ability to sell directly to consumers.

The firm said the deal will also provide it with new opportunities across its portfolio of snack and cold and hot beverages brand.

“BDS Vending together with Coca-Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland has the potential to transform the vending industry on the island of Ireland,” said Simon Fitzpatrick, general manager of Coca-Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland

“This acquisition will see our business bring agile ways of operating to the market, harness innovative technology, while also building capabilities in our route-to-market. In turn, we will offer our customers greater choice through our 24/7 portfolio and further enhance our consumer experience. We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues to the Coca-Cola HBC Group.”

The news of Fitzpatrick’s appointment as general manager was confirmed last month, with the Waringstown native having spent more than 20 years working for the company.

Headquartered in Dublin, Coca-Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland is a strategic bottling partner to The Coca-Cola Company, responsible for the manufacture, distribution, sale and channel marketing of its beverage portfolio.

The company employs more than 850 people out of its head office, while is operates a manufacturing facility in Lisburn, in addition to depots in Cork, Tuam and Tipperary.
